Hearing is delayed

ALEX Hughes refused to leave jail on Thursday to appear before Ely magistrates, so his case was adjourned for two weeks.

Hughes, 23, of Fishers Bank, Littleport, has denied an allegation of dangerous driving, and was due to be committed to Cambridge Crown Court.

He has been remanded in custody since March 22.

Hughes has admitted stealing a DVD player from Tesco in Ely on March 14, and is also charged with driving without insurance or a licence, assaulting a police officer and a detention officer, and damaging a police officer's shirt.

The case is due to be put before Cambridge magistrates on May 4.

Assault denied

SOHAM man Kevin Firth has denied an allegation of assault.

He is due to face trial at Ely Magistrates' Court on May 11.

Firth, 26, of Queensway, is accused of assaulting Amy Wood in Soham on November 24 last year.

Warrant is issued

A WARRANT was issued for the arrest of Ely man Lee Pearce when he failed to appear at the city courthouse on Thursday.

Pearce, 24, of New Barns Road, is accused of using threatening words or behaviour at High Barns Road in Ely on March 31.
