Mix-up over report appointment

BURGLAR Tommy Saunders could not be sentenced this week, because he had missed an appointment with the probation officer who was due to write his pre-sentence report.

At an earlier hearing before Ely magistrates, 21-year-old Saunders, of Manor Close, Witchford, had admitted carrying out a burglary at Jewsons in Ely on November 19.

"He did not receive the letter fixing the appointment until the day after the appointment was due," solicitor James Yardy told the court on Thursday.

Sentencing was adjourned until May 11 and his unconditional bail was extended.

'Threats' case date

A MAN who has denied using threatening behaviour at Soham Village College, and damaging a car at the school, is to face trial on July 20.

Mark Sweeney, 21, of Lande Street, Newmarket, is alleged to have threatened Oliver Raymond and damaged the bonnet of his Ford Escort car on September 16 last year.

Sweeney had been due to face trial on Thursday, but that hearing was cancelled because all the necessary preparation work had not been completed.
