A 500lb World War Two bomb was feared to have been discovered at the Elean Business Park in Sutton last night.

A work crew on site building an electrical substation thought they had discovered the device because the location had previously been used as an RAF airbase.

However, a Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordinance Disposal team attended and identified it as a buried mass of metal.

As a precaution, the area was cordoned safely and without causing disruption to local traffic or business.

PC Jamie Brown said “The E.O.D. are always incredibly positive and they give us very clear directions on what to do in order to keep the local community safe.

“Every step was taken for the worst case scenario, but thankfully, in this instance, it was a false alarm.

“We’re grateful to everyone at the scene who cooperated with the directions that we gave.”
