TWO men were attacked and robbed within days of each other in Ely city centre.

In one of the robberies, which happened at Newnham Street, a 20-year-old man was attacked for just £10 and left with head injuries.

The incident happened around 4pm when he was approached by a gang who punched him, leaving him with bruising to his head.

Police have arrested a number of people and they have been bailed to a later date.

In the second incident a 25-year-old man was knocked to the ground and had his wallet, containing £30 cash and credit cards, and his Nokia mobile phone stolen.

The attack happened when he was approached by a man as he was walking through The Cloisters in the early hours of the morning. The victim was not injured in the robbery.

Det Sgt Tim Underhill said: "We would urge anyone who has information about someone with credit cards or other property bearing another person's name to contact us."
