The Mayor of Ely was on hand to officially open a charity-helping café at the city’s rail station.
Councillor Richard Hobbs cut the ribbon at the launch of Ely Food Station which was attended by 50 people on Friday.
In partnership with Cafe Praego and the Point Foundation, it serves coffee from Rwanda and for each bag of coffee Ely Food Station buys, £3 goes to the Rwandan communities.
Owner Chris Woodhall said: “We believe we offer the best coffee in Ely and every cup bought provides help to families and orphans in need.
“Currently, along with other UK coffee shops, we fund 76 disabled children with daily bus collection from their villages, school fees, uniforms, their books, lunch and glass of milk every day.
“We also fund three specialist teachers’ salaries and have provided over 2,500 school books in the past 12 months.”
Cllr Hobbs said: “I am pleased to welcome a new business helping a worthwhile charity.
“I’m sure it will be an asset to travellers and the community.”
