ELY'S mayors past and present could be rewarded with badges totalling more than £800.

The idea was put forward by Mayor Cllr Ron Bradney who wants £832.50 taken out of next year's Ely City Council budget to pay for 25 badges.

The badges would be given free to each mayor to mark his or her year of office.

For those who have served more than one term the badge could be engraved with each year they served.

Cllr Bradney said Ely City Council is one of the few authorities in the surrounding area which does not provide badges for its mayors.
