The mayor of Ely, Councillor Lis Every, was the speaker at November’s meeting of Ely Inner Wheel Club.

Cllr Every spoke about her vision for Ely and her involvement in the city’s affairs. She said it included a lot of Cs – council, citizenship, co-operation, chairing committees, communities, change, communications and cakes, cakes, cakes!

She is over the halfway mark in her term of office and told members she is loving every minute of it and has met some fantastic people.

After question time members concluded we have an enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working mayor and realised how comprehensive are the jobs encompassed by the role.

President Helen Shanassy thanked Cllr Every for her talk and presented her with a cheque for her chosen charity East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

After refreshments the business meeting followed. Mrs Shanassy thanked members who helped with two recent events, the coffee morning which raised more than £200 for Ely Home-Start and the Inner Wheel Christmas tree entry into the Christmas tree festival in Ely Methodist Church.

The next meeting is the Christmas meal, next Wednesday. The first meeting of 2015 will be on January 27 at the Old Dispensary, from 7.30pm, at which two new members will be inducted.
