A man was rushed to hospital this morning (Thursday) after becoming trapped between the forks of a forklift truck on an industrial estate.

The East of England Ambulance Service was called shortly after 10am to the Lancaster Way Business Park, near Witchford.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “An ambulance crew and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle attended in under six minutes.

“The patient, who had suffered bruising to his abdomen, was released by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for further treatment.”

The spokesman said the man’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A crew from Ely attended a report of a man trapped by a fork lift truck at an industrial unit in Lancaster Way.

“In liaison with paramedics, firefighters used hydraulic spreaders to release the man. The casualty was taken to hospital and firefighters returned to the fire station just after 11am.”
