A MAN in his 20s had to be rescued from his car after it hit a tree and landed in a water-filled ditch along Lynn Road between Ely and Littleport today (Wednesday).

The Magpas Emergency Medical Team and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended the scene at 10am. The man was trapped in his vehicle for approximately 25 minutes; during this time he was treated by the medical team while fire-fighters worked to free him. The patient sustained head, chest and pelvic injuries and was given pain relief as well as being monitored and immobilised.

Once stable, the patient was transferred by land ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. His condition is described as stable but not life-threatening.

Debbie Florence, from Magpas, said: "Thanks to the emergency training Magpas volunteer doctors and EEAST paramedics receive and the advanced clinical equipment available on board Anglia Two, our Emergency Medical Team was able to deliver an advanced level of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the scene. It is through our working partnerships with the East Anglia Air Ambulance and the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust that we are able to deliver such a rapid and coordinated response in these circumstances.'
