AN Ely man who assaulted a police officer in a supermarket car park could not be sentenced this week, because the probation service failed to provide magistrates with his pre-sentence report.

So 39-year-old David Taylor will have to wait another week to hear his fate being announced by city magistrates.

Taylor, of New Barns Avenue, was found guilty of assaulting PC Ryan Carter in the Waitrose supermarket car park in Ely on and failing to stop his car for the police in Brays Lane at Ely, after a trial last month.

He had admitted driving a black Vauxhall Cavalier when disqualified, and driving without insurance in New Barns Avenue on October 19.

Arriving at court for sentencing on Thursday, Taylor was told that the probation officer preparing his report had been absent from work due to illness. His unconditional bail was extended.
