A MAN due to face trial at Ely courthouse next month may have left the country and gone to Portugal, magistrates were warned this week.

Fernando Jorge De-Castro-Ruivo, 48, of Nene Road, Ely, has denied stealing £61.14 from Ely Station News on March 25, and stealing another £30 from the same shop the following day.

The trial is due to go ahead on September 7.
