Man in his 40s seriously injured after being struck by a train in Littleport last night - services cancelled between Ely and Kings Lynn

The man, in his 40s, sustained “multiple injuries” said a spokesman for the East Anglian Air Ambulance who attended the incident.

“Anglia Two landed in a field in Littleport, 500m from the scene at 10.17pm,” said a spokesman.

“Dr Drew Welch and CCP Gary Steward were picked up by the police and driven to the incident. They attended a male in his late forties who sustained multiple injuries. The EAAA medical crew accompanied the patient to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and provided advanced interventions en-route.

The incident took place between 9 and 10pm at the train track on Victoria Street, close to The Swan on the River pub.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “We were called to an incident by the ambulance service at around 9.48pm last night.

“Someone was struck by a train but they looked to have survived it.

Train services between Ely and King’s Lynn were cancelled and bus replacement services were put in place. Normal train services have now resumed this morning.

A spokesman for the East Anglian ambulance service said: “We got called at 9.46pm last night to the level crossing at Victoria Street. We sent ambulance crew and a rapid response vehicle. They treated one patient, a man in his 40s, who had serious injuries to his abdomen and a suspected broken arm.”

The spokesman said the man’s condition is “serious but not life threatening.”
