A MAN discovered floating in the River Great Ouse in Ely last week has been named.

Andrew Dunning, 54, was from Aureole Walk, Newmarket, was discovered by rowers at about 7.45am near Waterside while they were out on the river.

Police dive teams were quickly at the scene and the body was recovered by 9.30am. The nearby marina and access to the river were cordoned off by officers while forensic teams carried out investigations.

Officers confirmed on Wednesday evening that they were not treating the death as suspicious and that the family of the man had been informed.

A Waterside resident said that she had seen police out looking for a man who had been reported missing two weeks ago but wasn’t sure if that incident was connected with the discovery of the body.

An inquest into the 54-year-old’s death has now been opened, though the cause of death has not yet been ascertained.
