A MAN has been charged for the offence of people trafficking - the first charge of its kind in Cambridgeshire.

Peteris Kalva, 38, from Cherry Road, Wisbech appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Saturday, and has been remanded in custody until September 4 when he will appear at Wisbech Magistrates' Court.

The Ely Standard reported last month how Cambridgeshire police launched a county-wide investigation, codenamed Operation Radium, aimed at ending the widespread sex slave trade.

They confirmed that two brothels have been operating in Ely along with up to 100 across Cambridgeshire.
