A YOUNG man who refused to fight was attacked and threatened with his life during an incident at an Ely skate park.

Jamie Webb punched Harry Baker in the head, and told him: "I am going to kill you eventually; this is not going to end."

And later the same evening, Webb turned up at the hostel where Harry Baker lived, banging on the doors, shouting and swearing.

Webb, 24, of Abbots Way, Ely, admitted charges of assault and threatening behaviour when he appeared before city magistrates on Thursday.

The incident around 9.30pm on May 17 began when Webb arrived at the skate park in St John's Road on his bicycle, and "started on" Mr Baker, said prosecutor Laura Mardell.

"The defendant tried to get him to fight with him," she said. "Mr Baker made no response, and Webb tried to head butt him, but Mr Baker managed to dodge out of the way.

"He then swung a punch at him, hitting him on the left temple. Mr Baker would not fight back, he was shocked and tried to walk away, but the defendant blocked his path and tried to get him to fight."

Fed up with the lack of response, Webb shouted abuse as he left the area, threatening to kill Mr Baker.

It was between 11pm and 11.30pm when Webb turned up at the Ely Young People's Project, shouting outside.

"He was outside, punching and head butting the front doors, and shouted at Harry Baker to come outside," added Miss Mardell.

"Mr Baker did not want to get involved; he went to the office with a member of staff. Webb was particularly aggressive, using both hands to bang against the main doors." Around £250-worth of damaged was caused the property.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and gave Webb unconditional bail until June 18.
