Fifty cannabis plants and approximately 850 grams of dried bud thought to be worth around £6,000 at current street value were recovered during a raid in Haddenham yesterday.

A 31-year-old man from Ely was arrested for production of the drugs following the search at a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Cherry Orchard.

The raid took a team of eight officers roughly five hours to work their way through.

It also uncovered a sophisticated hydroponics setup which was dismantled and seized by officers.

Alarmingly the power to the entire address was routed through a series of extension cables, said police.

PC Tom Graves said: “It has been hard work in quite cramped and dark conditions. “Cannabis productions are often quite dangerous environments that mix over tasked electricity and water supplies.

“The windows are sealed to conceal the distinctive smell.

“The environment is usually very hot too - and this was no different to previous experiences.

“We’ve taken a volume of cannabis off the market and we’re keen to submit it to evaluate the total value and yield of the plants.

“It certainly smelt very strong.”

If you have knowledge of this cannabis production, or any other locations sited in the region, call police on 101, or alternatively call Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.
