POLICE called to a road crash in Burwell found drunken John Parker in the back of an ambulance having a head injury treated.
He later gave a blood test reading more than twice the legal alcohol limit, Ely magistrates heard on Thursday.
Parker, 25, formerly of Newmarket but now living in Keighthley, Yorkshire, admitted being in charge of a Vauxhall Calibra with excess alcohol on February 23.
He was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £175 with £60 costs.
