A youngster from Littleport has waved goodbye to her long locks to raise money for a charity that has helped support two of her family members with Alzheimer’s.
Nine-year-old Maisie Martin went through the transformation at the Tanya Constable Hair Salon on Saturday in memory of her grandfather, Dennis, who died last year after suffering from Pick’s Disease, a form of Alzheimer’s. Her grandmother, Dot, is also battling Alzheimer’s.
She will donate her hair to the Princess Trust, which uses the hair to make wigs for children affected by cancer, and will donate over £520 to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Maisie’s mum, Mandy, said: “The Alzheimer’s Society is something that is close to our family’s hearts.
“When we asked her why she wanted to cut her hair – which she calls her mermaid hair – she said she cherishes it but wanted to donate it so that children who have lost their hair due to cancer can have some to cherish.”
