Dog whisperer PC Guy Spencer went to the dog’s aid after he escaped at about 6pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said: “He took off for an adventure, before our man ‘collared’ the runaway and returned him safely to his owners.

“Magner is obviously a well loved family pet as he is both chipped and wears a clear tag which enabled PC Spencer to return him promptly to his very concerned owner.

“It is thought that Magner snuck out when nobody was looking.

“PC Spencer braved a barrage of licks and cuddles, and is thankfully uninjured from the encounter.

PC Spencer, who took a selfie with Magner after finding him, said: “I was having a rough day to be honest - but Magner made it a lot better.”
