MP Lucy Frazer will host a follow-up meeting in her quest to secure good broadband coverage in East Cambridgeshire.

Ms Frazer hosted an open meeting in October where BT and Connecting Cambridgeshire set out their plans to deliver fibre broadband to villages in Cambridgeshire.

Around 100 people from affected villages attended and a number of areas, including Kirtling and Isleham were informed of BT and Connecting Cambridgeshire’s plans and timetable for broadband in their area.

Ms Frazer, in response to the initial meeting, is set to chair a follow-up meeting next month for those living in villages affected by a poor broadband service.

The South East Cambridgeshire MP has invited local and independent internet service providers to meet with those affected to see if they can offer a solution on Friday January 22.

Lucy said, “The meeting in October was informative and offered many people a timetable for the solution to their broadband issues, and an update on their concerns. I am concerned however that for some areas, such as Little Wilbraham, Prickwillow and Upend, there are people still without any broadband access or who will not benefit from a fibre upgrade for a significant amount of time.

“I have spoken to a number of people who are affected by this, whether it is because their children cannot do their homework because of lack of broadband, or people trying to run small businesses and who need a reliable connection. This issue is particularly important in rural areas.

I am aware of some local businesses who offer broadband packages, and who have indicated that they would like to help if they can. I will be hosting a second meeting in January to give an opportunity to these independent providers to showcase their services and to see if they can offer interim or longer-term solutions to those without broadband.”
