A MOTORIST who lost control of his car at a roundabout in Ely, crashing head on with a Mercedes, has admitted careless driving.

James Wilson, 20, had just left the Ford garage in Station Road when he approached the roundabout, planning to turn left.

"He lost control and collided head-on with a Mercedes coming from the opposite direction," prosecutor Delia Matthews told Ely magistrates on Thursday.

Mitigating, solicitor John Aspinall said the road was slippery, and Wilson had suffered "a momentary lapse of concentration".

The self-employed landscape gardener, of Fenland Way, Chatteris, was fined £250 with £35 costs and six points were endorsed on his driving licence.
