A LORRY driver caught using his mobile phone at the wheel of his vehicle was risking lives when he picked up the call, magistrates warned this week.

"It could have been a killer for you or someone else on the road," presiding magistrates Mary Rone told Bryn Williams.

Williams, 40, of Kempster Close, Bedford, admitted using his personal mobile phone in his lorry on the A14 at Swaffham Prior on August 13 last year, when his pregnant partner contacted him. He already had previous convictions for using his phone, and speeding.

Williams was fined 170, three points were put on his licence, and he must pay a 15 surcharge and 35 costs.
