FOSTER carers from East Cambridgeshire have received long service awards in recognition of their work with looked after children and young people.

About 150 carers, children and members of staff attended Cambridgeshire County Council’s annual Foster Carer Awards Ceremony held at Anglesey Abbey, near Cambridge.

The council said the event was a chance to celebrate the work foster carers do, as well as a chance for the carers and the children they look after too enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment.

Councillor David Brown, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I cannot overstate the importance of the work foster carers do, or how grateful we are to them. Fostering is a fulfilling, demanding, and skilful role.

“Our foster carers are highly valued by us, the county council, but are valued most of all by the children in their care.”

Council chairman John Powley said he hoped others would consider becoming foster carers to provide homes for young people.
