A restaurant in Littleport was forced to cease trading a day earlier than scheduled after hundreds of pounds worth of meat was stolen from its fridges.

The Littleport Steak House – now Gg’s Italian – on Ely Road, was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Sunday January 31, with over £400 worth of meat taken, alongside £80 in cash.

The burglary occurred the night before the restaurant’s last day of trading as a steak house, before it was re-opened as an Italian restaurant. The restaurant, run by Corrine Yendle, was fully booked for its final day, and the burglary forced Mrs Yendle to close its doors earlier than planned, and to move its customers to her other restaurants in the area.

She said: “We had a full restaurant book in for the following day, so we had to ship those people booked into to our other restaurants.

“It was our final day of trading, and we were getting ready to move everything over, so that’s why there was so much meat in the fridge.”

If you have any information on the burglary, please call DC Andy Harding at Ely police station on 101.
