A care home in Littleport was rated ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – with some elements rated ‘outstanding’.
Littleport Grange, which is managed by Minister Care and can accommodate up to 59 people, was praised because of its staff, organisation and people care.
Care there was described as ‘outstanding’ in terms of responsiveness and innovation, with staff members praised by inspectors for going the extra mile for the people they cared for.
Inspectors also praised the home for ‘allowing people to be as independent as possible and the staff for supporting them in the least restrictive way possible, allowing them to have maximum choice and control over their lives’.
“Staff were well informed as a result of their training about what keeping people safe meant,” the report states.
“Staff empowered people to be safe. People were given as much information as they needed about staying safe.
“People were involved in decision about their safety to the maximum possible extent and their wishes were respected by staff.”
The report adds that “risk assessments were in place and information about risks to people were shared with relevant organisations such as an occupational therapist.
“A sufficient number of staff had been safely recruited and they were deployed in a way which maximised people’s independence. Staff were provided with the training appropriate to their role.
“People’s prescribed medicines were administered and managed safely; the storage, disposal and recording of all medicines was carryout in line with current guidance.
“The registered manager and their staff team completely understood their responsibilities.”
It adds that “near misses were seen as an opportunity for learning and to help prevent thing from going wrong”.
A spokesman for Minister Care Group said: “Staff in all of our care homes work tirelessly to provide a great service for our residents and it is really great news that this work has been recognised and rewarded with a ‘good’ rating for Littleport Grange.
“Our aim has always been to provide the best possible care for the elderly. This CQC report has shown that it can be achieved, and I’d like to thank each member of staff at Littleport Grange who made it happen.”
The unannounced inspection was carried out in December 2017.
