LITTLEPORT couple Sonny and Joyce Dixon celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this week.
The couple, who have lived in the village for 64 years, marked their platinum anniversary with a grand family party.
Sonny, 91, first met Joyce, 90, in Littleport in 1936 while they were teenagers. Sonny was working for jam-producers Chivers while Joyce was working at a chemist on Main Street.
Sonny joined the RAF in 1939 and completed his training in Bedford before leaving for the front line in France. Joyce, meanwhile, was called to help the war effort by making industrial equipment at factories in Hertfordshire and Luton.
The couple were married at Sedge Fen Baptist Chapel in Shippea Hill in 1941 before Sonny was sent away with RAF once more, this time to the middle-east, including Egypt and Palestine.
The couple were parted for three years before Sonny eventually returned and in 1946 the couple made their home on City Road, where they have remained ever since.
Sonny and Joyce have two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and they say that “give and take” is the key to a long and happy marriage.
