Attendees at the night of mediumship will also be treated to soup and a roll on the night.

The group, which is a part of the New Christian Spiritualists’ Society, an international body representing Christian Spiritualists’ with members, churches and ministers around the world, already has a full schedule for 2018 in Littleport Village Hall. It marks 20 years since the first regular spiritualist meeting in the village.

Ely-born Reverend Nick Brown, senior minister of the group, will be the demonstrating medium at the Christmas event.

Born in Ely, Nick may also be recognised for other activities locally. If you have ever bought a loaf of bread or a tank of fuel in one of the local retail outlets he has worked in over the years.

“People find it hard to accept that a spiritualist minister might be giving a sermon one minute, then selling them a coffee the next,” Nick said of his five years in a clerical collar “but when you think about it no matter where I go someone comes to see me because they need some form of assistance or service.”

Nick is also the society suffragan bishop, which is the deputy to its principal minister and founder. His current focus is dispelling the misconceptions of his religion, especially following numerous attacks through social media he has received in recent months since he began broadcasting his sermons live on Facebook.

“We are not fortune tellers, or psychic entertainers in this way of life,” he added. “Because even though proving we live on after the physical death with mediumship is central to our philosophy, there is so much more to it.

“The whole point of us is to promote kindness, and the message that a stranger is a friend you have not met yet and that, ultimately we all have more in common with each other than the things that separate us.”

All are welcome and invited to see Revd Nick give his demonstration, at Littleport Village Hall in Victoria Street, Littleport, on December 21. It will start at 7.30pm and costs £2 to enter on the door.
