Children in Little Downham had a taste of life as an evacuee on Thursday as part of a special Second World War day.
More than 30 pupils in Year 5 at Downham Feoffees came in to class dressed as evacuees from the late 1930s and early 40s for a day-long look at the life of evacuees, hundreds of whom came from London to live in the Fens.
As well as making their own gas masks, children also heard about life, good and bad, for evacuees away from their homes and explored wartime art and music.
Teacher Monica Howlett said: “The Second World War is our topic for this term and the children were very excited to spend the day as evacuees.”
