THOUSANDS f peple are set t descend n land near Stuntney fr a new annual summer dance music festival.

A licence fr up t 15,000 peple t attend the event ver the weekend f July 5/6 has been granted by East Cambs District Cuncil. The cuncil nly received ne bjectin t the plan when a resident raised his cncerns abut drug use and "unsavury characters".

He tld East Cambridgeshire District Cuncil's Licensing Cmmittee that the lcatin, t be spread ver 10 fields near Stuntney, was inapprpriate, given the size f the event, and that it wuld disrupt the lcal cmmunity. He said n cnsultatin had taken place despite assurances frm rganiser Anthny Mrbey that he wuld wrk with the lcal cmmunity.

Mr Mrbey said the event wuld be fr ver 18s and that he wuld enfrce strict identity checks. Alchl will be sld frm nn n Saturday until 4pm n Sunday, and secure fencing will be erected arund the main arena. Organisers will als wrk with the Highways Agency t manage a ptential rise in traffic n the A142.

The festival area is clse t care hme Fenland Ldge, but it is nt knwn if anyne frm management bjected t the plans.

Liz Knx, head f envirnmental services and husing at East Cambridgeshire District Cuncil, said: "Fllwing a sub-cmmittee hearing, the licence was granted with a number f cnditins attached t ensure the safety f thse attending and the minimum incnvenience t residents in the area.

"We have a duty t all thse wh will be ging t the event and the lcal residents t ensure their interests are nt ignred.

"We will nw be wrking very clsely with Tiger Prductins, ther rganisatins and authrities t ensure the festival is well-run."

Tiger Prductins is the cmpany rganising the event, run by Mr Mrbey.
