LIAM Fairhurst has made it through to the final round of the national television competition organised by Five News and the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) to find Britain's Kindest Kid. Liam, aged 13, along with the other four finalists will meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street.

The competition has been set up to reward the charitable work done by children aged 16 years and under. Applicants had to demonstrate acts of real kindness which involved them either giving up their free time, or raising money to help a charity or good cause.

Despite undergoing treatment for cancer, Liam has managed to raise more than £150,000 for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent. Liam started fund-raising in 2006 with a sponsored one-mile swim after undergoing gruelling treatment and an operation to remove a tumour in his leg. His target was £1,000 but he raised an amazing £12,000. He then appeared on ITV's Million Pound Giveaway and managed to persuade a panel to award him £50,741 to fund a caravan in Yorkshire where families affected by childhood cancer can take a much deserved break.

The competition will be judged by Natasha Kaplinsky, presenter of Five News and John Low, chief executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, Josie MacRae, deputy editor of Five News, Gill Nunn, director of Innovation for the Charities Aid Foundation, and Charlotte Foster, young vice-chair of UK Youth.

The judges were deeply moved by Liam's dedication to fund-raising and think he is a positive and inspirational role model for children and adults.

John Low, chief executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said: "It was immensely rewarding to hear so many stories of young people who do such incredible things for others. These five finalists really are exceptional young people."

The stories of the five finalists will be broadcast on Five News every day of the week beginning July 28 at 12:30pm, 5pm and 7pm. The viewers of Five News will then vote by phoning to nominate the person who they think is Britain's Kindest Kid - lines open on July 28 and calls cost no more than 10p. The winner will be announced live on Five News on Monday, August 4. The prize is £1,000 pocket money and £1,000 in Charities Aid Foundation vouchers.
