SOHAM based charity, the Liam Fairhurst Foundation, has donated £1,000 to support young patients being treated for serious illnesses in hospital.

The cheque was donated to Cambridgeshire Community Services by Callum Fairhurst, 15, brother of Liam, who himself raised hundreds of thousands for good causes.

Callum has continued Liam’s legacy of helping young people affected by cancer, disabilities and illness, as well as supporting their siblings.

Callum said: “I was eight when Liam was diagnosed and I was with him throughout his treatments, so I know the children’s community nursing team. They were great for both Liam and our family so we wanted to provide some funding to support their young patients and their brothers and sisters.”

Mags Hirst, play specialist, with Cambridgeshire Community Services, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this donation from The Liam Fairhurst Foundation. We have purchased an iPad mini with visual sensory apps and specific music apps which will enable patients and their siblings make music, and it can also be used for distraction whilst the child is having a procedure carried out.

“We are also planning to use the funds to take our young patients and their siblings on outings during the summer.”
