Our group was delighted by the public response to this year’s annual Lecture in Ely Cathedral on October 16.

Paul Joseph, anti-apartheid activist and friend of Nelson Mandela, spoke and answered questions about his experiences in South Africa before he and his family fled to London in 1965.

He spoke about his life as a refugee and exile and his concerns about today’s global refugee crisis.

One of the questions from the audience was from a blond-haired boy of about ten who asked Paul how he could help a refugee in the UK.

Paul would very much like to write to this boy but we have no idea who he is. If his parents read this, and would be happy for Paul to write to him, please could they get in touch with us via info@amnestyely.org.uk? As Paul said to us, such compassion and concern for others in one so young is definitely worth nurturing, especially in the face of greatly increased racial intolerance and anti-refugee sentiment in our country today.
