THE Easter Bunny had to contend with heavy snow during his journey to Cambridgeshire on Sunday, in the first Easter snowfall for 10 years.

Residents awoke on Easter morning to find up to three inches of the white stuff covering the ground, but it had turned to slush by lunchtime in built-up areas as warmer temperatures melted the snow.

Snowfall was caused by Arctic winds sweeping in from the north, bringing icy night time temperatures of minus two degrees.

Major traffic routes stayed trouble free, although an estimated 16million cars headed out on UK roads over the weekend break. Police reported no serious collisions on the A14 and A10.
