A curry and quiz night at Ely Indian restaurant, Le Spice, raised £600 which will be used to help children locally and overseas.
The proceeds have been shared equally between Ely College, who will use their £300 to help schools in Kenya, and Highfield Littleport Academy, where their share will buy outdoor play equipment.
English teacher, Nikisha Burke, who received the cheque on behalf of Ely College, said £300 would buy much needed teaching equipment for the two Kenyan schools. “The college has built such strong links with the Kenyan schools and we are very grateful for the support of the local community.”
Highfield Littleport head teacher Yvonne Skillern said: “We have wonderful brand new premises but we badly need specialist outdoor play equipment so this £300 will be put to very good use.”
Organiser Steuart Northfield was quiz master and 10 teams of six battled it out to claim the winner’s prize which was 200 rupees, just over £2.
A group of Ely students and staff fly to Nairobi in February to give teaching and practical help to the Jubilee Academy and Ungana Academy.
