Entries for Ely Police Station’s ArtReach competition have started to flood in – including this colourful and emotional piece from Lauren-May Baumber.

11-year-old Lauren-May, who lives in Ely, submitted her piece as part of the police station’s attempt to liven up their bare corridors with art that portrays emotions or mood.

Lauren-May’s artwork, which conveys the sadness and confusion from the loss of a loved one, has been praised by the station’s officers, including District Commander DCI Donna Wass.

She said: “This is a very touching piece and we think you have done a really outstanding job with this, Lauren-May. You have certainly set the bar very high indeed. Well done.”

The ArtReach competition is accepting entries in any medium that can be wall mounted, in four categories. Those entering the competition must live in East Cambridgeshire.

The categories are:

• 11 – 13 years

• 14 – 16 years

• 17 – 18 years

• Entrants with learning difficulties or disabilities are not defined by their age.

The theme for the competition, sponsored by digital art tool manufacturer Huion, is ‘mood or emotion,’ and the winners will win a prize of an arts tablet.

The winners will be judged by a panel including Police and Crime Commissioner Sir Graham Bright, Chief Constable Alec Wood, City of Ely Mayor Liz Avery and Professor Jean Michel Massing from Cambridge University’s Department of Art History.

The four category winners will be awarded at a reception at Kings School in Ely on April 7.
