THE landlords of an award-winning Ely pub have decided to call time on their three-year tenure in the city.

Ian and Tracy Waldock took over running of the Prince Albert in 2009 and have wracked up countless awards since then, including the Greene King Head Brewer’s Club, the Cask Marque and, on Sunday, they will be crowned Pub of the Year by CAMRA.

The Silver Street pub is famed for is friendly atmosphere and selection of ales and landlady Tracy said it was a tough decision to call time.

Speaking to the Ely Standard, she said: “Ian and I are looking for a new challenge, it has been getting harder and harder and the pub needs some investment so we decided not to sign another three-year contract.

“The pub has such a lovely atmosphere, the customers are so loyal and it will be very sad to leave them behind. The Albert is the Albert though, and I think as long as the new owners don’t try to change it, it will keep on going strong.

“I also hope that Glyn Jones, who has been working here and pulling pints for 37 years, is allowed to carry on doing what he loves, he is something of a legend here!”
