A LANDBEACH second hand superstore is raising funds for the Ely Foodbank tomorrow.
Emmaus will offer fifty per cent off all stock, with the proceeds going towards a new van, so that the foodbank can collect and distribute food items to those who need it most.
John Gall, community leader at Emmaus, said: “Everyone who works here is formerly homeless. But now they have work and a place to live, and they can in turn try to help someone less fortunate than they are. We call this an act of solidarity.”
The store sells furniture, vintage clothes, white goods, records, bicycles, outdoor items and bric-a-brac.
Cathy Wright, Ely Foodbank coordinator said: “This show of support from Emmaus is greatly appreciated. Please help us and yourselves by going along and buying something from the Emmaus Landbeach or Emmaus in Cambridge shops.”
The number of people using Ely Foodbank has surged over the past six months, with 10,000 meals distributed since November.
