A community group in Soham want to knit five thousand poppies to decorate St Andrews church and the surrounding village.

The Soham Knit and Knatter Group have already completed 2,200 so far as part of the Soham Remembers activities, in memory of all those who died in the First World War.

A large wreath has already been knitted with purple poppies to remember all the animals that died in service too.

The group is now urging more members of the community to get involved too and are providing the pattern and the wool.

This is all part of commemorating the end of WW1 with the church being open for people to come and see the poppies an evening concert and some fundraising stalls to raise funds for the church roof and bell tower.

They have already knitted leaves and made more than 1,000 poppies into brooches to be donated to the Soham British Legion for sale in 2019, so none of the poppies will go to waste.
