A photograph by a keen snapper from a King’s Ely Sixth Form student will take pride of place in a gallery in London this month after it was highly commended by the Economic and Social Research Council.
Maria Overtoom’s black-and-white photo will be displayed in the Espacio Gallery in the capital later this month after it was selected out of 900 entries in the Council’s Focus on Society competition – a national competition for people aged 14 to 18.
Entrants were required to take and submit a photograph showing how they see the world around them from a social science perspective.
Antonio Longo, Head of Photography at King’s Ely, said: “The judges said they like that Maria’s image was well-focused and that the subject appeared very natural and unaware they were being photographed. They also liked how the image gave a sense of the commuter being alone while in a crowd.”
