Children at King’s Ely Acremont and Nursery raised £400 for victims of Hurricane Irma by holding a bake sale.
Willow Barry, a reception pupil at King’s Ely Acremont, said she was so moved by the recent devastation that she decided a cake sale in school could be a good way to raise money for the victims and their families.
The money will go to the British Red Cross, whose aid-workers are on the ground delivering support to those worst affected.
Sarah Stevens, acting head and reception teacher at King’s Ely Acremont, said: “The devastation caused by Hurricane Irma really hit a chord with Willow.
“She talked to the reception children about her concerns and suggested we hold a cake sale to raise money for the victims. “We were overwhelmed by the response from parents and children alike.
“The money raised will enable the British Red Cross to purchase three kitchen kits and 13 jerry cans of fresh water for the victims of the disaster.”
