KIERAN Brady, of Soham, ended his roller hockey season on a high note when he was awarded the Under-13 Player of the Year trophy at the National Cup finals in Bisley, Surrey, earlier this month.

Kieran is a student at Soham Village College and was "delighted" to receive the award as it was his last season in Under-13 squad, which is a particularly competitive age category.

Kieran, who is now 14, plays for Bury RHC, and was captain of their Under 13 team this season. He was also captain of the Eastern Counties Under-13 squad which won the regional tournament in June. The Player of the Year trophy was not the only award he received on Cup Finals day, as he was part of the Under-17 team who beat Peterborough to lift the trophy.

Kim Brady, Kieran's mum, encouraged her son to follow in her footsteps. She has been a keen roller hockey player and just retired at the end of the season. Kieran strapped on his first pair of skates at the age of five and, since he moved from artistic skating to hockey, he has become one of the top young players in the country.

Kieran is now looking forward to next season, when he will be travelling to Portugal in October, as part of the England Under-15 squad.
