Kennett family given support after fire damages their home

A family were offered emergency support after fire caused extensive damage to their home in Kennett on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze, which was caused by an electrical fault, started in the garage of the property in Dane Hill and spread to the two-storey house.

Four fire crews, one from Soham and three from Suffolk attended the fire at 3.30pm and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets, hose reels, a water shuttle and hydrants to tackle the blaze.

Positive pressure ventilation fans were used to clear smoke and thermal imaging cameras were used to identify hotspots while crews were cutting away and dampening down.

Two cylinders were involved in the fire and were safely cooled by firefighters.

Extensive damage was caused to a first floor bedroom and ground floor hallway and there was smoke damage throughout the property.

Crews returned to their stations by 7pm.

A volunteer Red Cross team with the Fire Emergency Support Services (FESS) vehicle, based at Whittlesey, also attended the incident to provide the victims with support following the fire. A fire investigation concluded the cause of the fire was accidental, electrical.
