THE proceeds from the annual Joe Loss Charity Ball held in October at Soham Village College raised almost five and a half thousand pounds for local organisations. Cheques to the value of £5,492 were presented at a ceremony at the home of committee chairman Anjie Schunmann.

The Soham Village College Youth Service received £600, the East Cambs Family Project £500, the Soham Fenlander Majorettes £200 towards their caravan fund, the Soham Staploe Medical Centre Transport Fund received £750, enough to keep the service running for a month, Gemma Rix, who is visiting Mexico to represent the Guides received £342, the Soham On Line website was presented with £100, £700 was presented to the Viva Centre to go towards installing a hearing loop, Soham Town Colts and Soham United Colts both received £250 each, the Soham Twinning Association received £200, the Soham Over-60s received £200 while the Soham Village College fund to visit South Africa was given £400. The major donation of £1,000 was given to the Soham Guides and Scouts to go towards their fund to build new premises.

This year's ball will again be at Soham Village College on October 26. Tickets will be available from Anjie's Hairdressers in Soham. The committee will hear from organisation wishing to be considered for a share of next year's proceeds. Contact Anjie at her hair salon.
