Police and crime commissioner Jason Ablewhite was joined by young people from the Cambs Youth Consultation Panel when he popped into Ely market.

The panel works with the police and local councils to represent young people across the county to campaign on a variety of issues.

Mr Ablewhite said he was delighted to meet both members of the youth panel and also members of the Cambridgeshire volunteer police cadets at Ely.

“They are a great group of young people who are campaigning against knife crime and other issues they are passionate about,” he said.

The Cambs youth panel has so far raised £2,000 towards a fund to bring young people affected by a shooting in America to this country for a holiday. Sergeant Phil Priestley praised their efforts and those, too, of local companies such as Sigma Printing and Embroidery and Tesco for their help.

The youth panel is made up of young people aged 13 - 16 years and is supported predominantly by the police and the police and crime commissioner.

Money is being raised to help bring students and two chaperones from Parkland Florida to Cambridgeshire following the school shooting earlier this year.

Cambs Police describe it is a bold international endeavour to reduce violent crime that affects young people.
