AN action-packed day of fun is promised at the 54th Soham Carnival and Heavy Horse Show on Bank Holiday Monday, May 28.

Plans are well underway for the event which promises fun for all ages and charity cash for local organisations.

The event kicks off with the Heavy Horse Show at the Recreation Ground in Fountain Lane from 9am to 1pm.

Organisers Soham Benevolent Association are looking for sponsors for the event which costs around £2,000 to stage.

It can be as little as £100 to sponsor a class and it is an ideal opportunity for businesses to place an advertising banner or company logo on the main show ground as well as being listed as an official sponsor on all showground posters and programmes.

At 1pm the carnival parade of decorated vehicles will leave from Townsend entering the Recreation Ground for judging around 1.45pm.

The vintage and classic vehicle show, featuring cars, motorbikes, vans, lorries and tractors starts at 3.45pm.

During the afternoon children's sports races will take place, there will be a Punch and Judy Show, bygones display and a range of stalls including barbeque and refreshments.

Soham Fenlander Majorette Troupe and local band A4Teen will be performing along with other bands and DJs and there will be a real ale tent.

An unsung hero will be nominated Soham Townperson of the Year and will be presented with a special trophy on carnival day.

The winner will be chosen by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter, Richard Spendlove, and nominations can be made by phone on 01353 624493 or by email at carnival@soham.org.uk.

Along with the person you wish to nominate, you should include your name, address, telephone number and/or email address.

Tickets for the show cost £3 for adults, £2.50 concessions and children 16 and under enter for just 50p.
