A tail with a happy ending as lost dog, whose photo went viral on Facebook, is reunited with his owners

A post about the dog went viral in the eastern region over the weekend, with around 300 people sharing the post to their Facebook pages, to try to get the animal back home.

Darren King was walking his dog Sammy in Isleham nature reserve, when he found the Labrador on Saturday (28).

“He was just stood in the nature reserve at around 1pm,” Darren said.

“My worry was he was in the heat, bless him. Getting him in the car was the biggest challenge, clearly not a fan.”

Once Darren had managed to coax the dog into his car, he drove to a veterinary clinic at Newmarket to see if the dog was micro chipped, so he could be reunited with the owners.

Darren, of Isleham, said: “Vets 4 Pets Newmarket couldn’t have been more helpful and took him in after seeing he was chipped.

“I do hope he’s back home safely, strangely, I was sad to leave him!”

A member of staff at Vets 4 Pets said: “It just goes to show how important it is to chip your dog and keep details up to date.

“We traced the owners and the dog was happy to chill here while he waited for them to arrive.

“He was very laid back but when the owner came he was so happy, it was great to see.

“I think the owner walks in the reserve regularly. It’s lovely to be able to help give the story a happy ending.”
