LATE June has been busy for the Isle of Ely Lions Club. On June 21, the club held its annual meeting at the Lamb Hotel when the committee chairmen gave the annual reports on activities during the past year. These included collecting more than £5,000 from fund-raising activities with more than £4,500 given in donations, notably £2,500 to the Arthur Rank Hospice and smaller amounts to mainly local charities, including the Humpty and Barny Bears playgroups, Dial-a-Ride, Sue Ryder Care, Vera James and Lily House and Milton Children's Hospice who will also benefit substantially from the proceeds of the Two County Motor Show on July 2.

The Lion of the Year Award went jointly to Mark Gordon, community services and Cyril Garner responsible for supporting the Leos Club.

June 24 was President's Night at The Maltings where the club members enjoyed a buffet supper to the musical accompaniment of one of our members, Ken Day, who will soon be leaving the club for pastures new in Spain. The MacGregor Cup for outstanding support to the club was presented by Rita MacGregor to Ted McKenzie.

President Bob Smith thanked all the members for their outstanding efforts during the past year and handed over the chain of office for 2006-07 to Lion Caroline Cross, the first ex-president of the Ely Leos Club to move on to be president of The Lions.
