East Cambridgeshire police have issued a plea to shed owners to security mark their sheds or garages following a seasonal spate of burglaries in the area.
A police spokesman said: “Seasonal shed and garage burglaries are a matter of local concern. We have recently seen a rise in this type of criminality which fits a pattern of seasonal offending.
“We are finding that people are often willing to store hundreds of pounds worth of equipment and belongings - often secured with nothing more than a yale lock, a padlock or a chain.”
The police have urged shed and garage owners to protect their properties from theft by using security lamps, window or door alarms and by security marking.
They also asked owners to consider the follow questions to ensure the contents of their properties are safe from burglars:
1) Do you store bicycles, lawn mowers, gardening or power tools in your shed or garage?
2) Does your shed or garage have a window that allows someone to view what you have in there?
3) Is the shed or garage secured on a single lock?
