Hundreds of primary school children in year five visited the station for a week of workshops highlighting safety at home and outdoors.

Around 500 students from local schools attended the schools safety zone challenge which ran from October 17 to 21.

Watch Commander Dave Rees said: This has been a great week giving the children a fantastic opportunity to learn some potentially life saving messages.

“I would like to express my thanks to all the agencies involved for supporting the event, the volunteers and the firefighters at Ely for all their hard work in making this annual event a great success, particularly firefighter Darren Fox who lead on the organisation of the event.”

Schools that attended were Littleport Community School, Ely St Marys, Wilburton, Little Thetford, Robert Arkenstall, Millfield, Ely St Johns, Kings School Ely, Mepal and Witcham and The Lantern School.
