A group of intrepid cyclists raised more than £2,000 for Ely Foodbank by completing a mammoth cycle ride from the Isle of Ely to the Isle of Anglesey.

Members of the Octagon Cycling Club set out from King’s Ely early on Saturday morning on a 300-mile round trip to Anglesey, in Wales, known as the Twin Isles Ride.

They gruelling feat saw the group climb some 16,000 feet of hills, slopes and mountains while burning an average of 8,000 calories each per day.

Day one was the biggest challenge for the group, with many long, steep hills and a mountain to contend with before making their overnight stop, in Bangor.

Day two saw the team arrive in Anglesey over the Menai Bridge before returning to England and arriving in Worcester for a second overnight stop.

They arrived back in Ely on Monday and were greeted by family and friends at about 7.30pm.

The group exceeded their £2,000 target for Ely Foodbank and now hope to be able to match that and give another £2,000 to other local charities.
